Nutella Puff Pastry Tree
Ingredients
  • 1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®), or more to taste, at room temperature
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (the temperature is equivalent to 190 degrees Celsius). To begin, line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
2
Next, take one puff pastry sheet and roll it out into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface. Place the rolled-out pastry onto the prepared baking sheet.
3
Using your hands, gently shape the puff pastry into a large triangle with a wide base. This will form the foundation of your Christmas tree design.
4
Spread a thin layer of chocolate-hazelnut spread over the triangle using the back of a spoon. Be sure not to overload the pastry, as this can make it difficult to work with.
5
Take the second puff pastry sheet and roll it out into a large rectangle. Place this rectangle on top of the first one, ensuring they are aligned properly.
6
Using a knife or pastry cutter, carefully cut out the Christmas tree shape and trunk from the combined pastry. You can use a template or draw the design freehand.
7
Gently pull away any excess pastry, taking care not to tear the delicate dough. This will help create a clean and smooth edge.
8
Using a knife, score two lines down the middle of the triangle to form the tree trunk. The trunk should be narrower at the top and wider towards the base.
9
With the trunk as a guide, cut branches into the sides of the triangle. You can use a template or draw the branch lines freehand.
10
Twist the branches away from you, working your way up the tree in two turns on the lower branches. Continue twisting and shaping the branches as you move upwards.
11
Using excess pastry, cut a small star shape. Place this star on top of the tree, securing it with a little bit of water.
12
Brush the entire tree, including the star, with beaten egg for a golden glaze. This will help create a rich and shiny finish.
13
Place the Christmas tree on a preheated baking sheet in the oven, where it will bake until puffy and golden brown. The recommended cooking time is 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pastry is cooked through.
14
Once baked, remove the tree from the oven and let it cool slightly for 5 minutes. This will help prevent the pastry from becoming soggy.
15
Finally, slide your Christmas tree onto a serving plate using a piece of parchment paper if needed. Your beautifully crafted pastry is now ready to be enjoyed!
