Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 cups potatoes, peeled and grated
- 2 tablespoons grated onion
- 8 ounces cooked ham, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup melted butter
Instructions
1
Combine the flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, baking powder, and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Place the diced potatoes and onion in a large container, then blend the flour mixture into the potato mixture until it's evenly distributed. Use your hands to work the dough until it becomes firm and resembles a dense bread mixture. If necessary, add more flour to achieve the right consistency.
2
Take a small amount of dough and shape it around a cube of ham, completely covering the ham with the dough to form a ball. Repeat this process with the remaining dough and ham cubes, setting aside any leftover ham for another use.
3
Fill a large pot with water and add 2 teaspoons of salt. If you have any leftover ham, you can also add it to the water for added flavor. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then carefully add the dough balls to the pot one at a time. Make sure not to overcrowd the pot, as this can cause the dough balls to stick together. Remove any dough balls that are sticking to the bottom of the pot, and continue to simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
4
Use a slotted spoon to remove the dough balls from the pot, and drain them on a plate. Serve the hot dough balls with melted butter for a delicious side dish.
