Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons margarine or butter
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/3 cup chopped celery
- 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 2/3 cup long grain white rice
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 2/3 cup diced cooked chicken breast
- 2/3 cup cooked crumbled Italian sausage
- 2/3 cup peeled cooked shrimp
Instructions
1
Heat the margarine in a large saucepan over medium heat, allowing it to melt and become smooth. Introduce the onion, celery, and green pepper into the saucepan, stirring them gently to combine. Continue cooking until these vegetables have softened and become translucent, taking approximately 5 minutes.
2
Next, pour in the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, and rice into the saucepan. Add a pinch of basil, garlic, pepper, hot sauce, and bay leaf for added flavor. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat before gradually reducing the heat to medium-low, covering it with a lid. Allow the rice to cook until it reaches its desired level of doneness, which should take around 20 minutes.
3
Once the rice has finished cooking, add the chicken, sausage, and shrimp to the saucepan. Simmer these ingredients gently for a short period of time until they have heated through and are fully incorporated into the dish. Finally, remove the bay leaf before serving the completed Jambalaya recipe
