Ingredients
- 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, all minced except for 6
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup minced onion
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature, specifically 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, set aside six whole mushrooms and reserve them for later use. Then, chop the remaining mushrooms into small pieces.
3
Meanwhile, combine ground beef, the chopped mushrooms, bread crumbs, onion, ketchup, eggs, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Use your hands or a spoon to mix everything together until it's well incorporated.
4
Now, divide the mixture in half and place one half into the bottom of a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Press the whole mushrooms down gently onto the meat, making sure their stems are facing downwards.
5
Top the loaf pan with the remaining mixture and use your hands to gently press it into place, ensuring it's well combined with the bottom section.
6
Finally, bake the mixture in your preheated oven until it reaches an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit or 70 degrees Celsius, which should take around 1 hour and 45 minutes. Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature.
