Mushroom Gravy Hamburger Steaks
Ingredients
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon beef base
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 slices white bread
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can water
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
1
Combine eggs, finely chopped onion, beef base powder, and a pinch of black pepper in a bowl. Tear the bread into large fragments and add them to the bowl, allowing it to absorb the liquid for a few seconds. Then, incorporate the ground beef into the egg-bread mixture, stirring until well combined and a dough-like consistency is achieved. Shape this mixture into 8 patties.
2
Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat and sear the patties until they are nicely browned on both sides, with no pink color remaining in the center. Transfer the patties to a plate.
3
Discard any excess oil from the skillet and mix the mushroom soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce in it until smooth. Place the patties back into the skillet, pour the sauce over them to cover, and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Gradually reduce the heat to a low simmer and cook until the sauce thickens, blending the flavors together, about 20 minutes.
