Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 3 green onions
- 1 (10 ounce) can mushroom pieces, drained
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup half-and-half
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pinch garlic powder, or to taste
- 10 slices sandwich bread
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees F (or equivalently, 175 degrees C).
2
Next, take a baking sheet and give it a light coating of cooking spray to prevent the bread from sticking during baking.
3
Take green onions and mushrooms, and using a sharp knife or chopping tool, finely chop them into extremely small pieces, almost to the point of becoming a paste-like consistency.
4
In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the chopped green onions and mushrooms to the saucepan and stir constantly until they release their fragrance, approximately 2 minutes have passed.
5
Using a spoon or whisk, mix cornstarch into the half-and-half until well combined. Pour this mixture into the saucepan with the mushroom and green onion mixture, stirring constantly until it thickens, taking around 3 minutes.
6
Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the mushroom mixture and stir until well combined. This will enhance the flavors of your dish.
7
Take slices of bread and using a rolling pin, flatten them into thin sheets. This will help the bread become more pliable and easier to roll.
8
Using a spoon or your hands, spread the mushroom mixture evenly onto each flattened bread slice. Then, tightly roll up the bread slices to form tubes.
9
Slice each rolled-up bread tube into 1-inch thick rounds. Arrange these rounds on a baking sheet in an even layer.
10
Place the prepared bread rounds into the preheated oven and bake until they are golden brown, taking approximately 10 minutes.
