  • 8 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds

Heat a large pot over medium heat, adding wine and allowing it to warm up until you notice steam rising from the surface. However, be cautious not to let it reach a boil. Introduce cinnamon sticks, cloves, lemon juice, and sugar into the pot; stir until the sugar has fully dissolved. Place orange slices on top of the mixture, allowing them to float gently on the surface. Continue to warm the mixture over medium heat for 5 minutes, taking care not to let it boil. Remove the pot from the heat source and allow it to stand for 1 hour.

Strain the mixture through a colander, separating the orange slices and whole spices from the liquid. Serve the warm fruit syrup hot, or refrigerate it and reheat gently just before serving to preserve its flavor.
