Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce, divided
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano, divided
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1
Begin by heating your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Mix together the ground beef, finely chopped onion, half of the tomato sauce, bread crumbs, beaten egg, minced garlic, and a pinch of dried oregano in a large mixing bowl. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
3
Using your hands, shape the mixture into a rectangular shape on a sheet of waxed paper. Make sure it is about half an inch thick.
4
Place the mozzarella cheese on top of the meatloaf, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
5
To assemble the meatloaf, lift up the short side of the waxed paper and start rolling it into a tight cylinder. As you roll, gently peel back the paper to maintain its shape.
6
Once rolled, seal the edges of the meatloaf in place using your fingers or a fork.
7
Place the rolled meatloaf into a loaf pan and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
8
While the meatloaf is baking, combine the remaining tomato sauce with a pinch of dried oregano in a small bowl. Once the meatloaf is done, pour the sauce over it and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
9
Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Allow the meatloaf to stand for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
