Ingredients
- 4 hard rolls, split
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 pounds round steak, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced and quartered
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 pinch coarse sea salt
- 8 (1 ounce) slices provolone cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit, or equivalently, 260 degrees Celsius.
2
Split the rolls in two and place them on a baking sheet to toast, allowing the heat to achieve your desired level of browning.
3
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, garlic, and Parmesan cheese using a whisk, stirring until smooth.
4
Refrigerate the mixture until you are ready to use it.
5
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
6
Add the steak and onion to the skillet, seasoning with Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, and sea salt.
7
Cook and stir the ingredients until the steak is browned and the onion is tender, taking approximately 10 minutes.
8
Spread a generous amount of garlic-Parmesan mayonnaise on both halves of the toasted rolls.
9
Divide the steak and onion mixture among the bottom rolls, piling them high.
10
Top each roll with 2 slices of provolone cheese and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
11
Place the tops on the sandwiches, then transfer them to a baking sheet.
12
Bake the sandwiches in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted, taking around 5 minutes.
