  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 pounds prime rib roast, ribs removed and trussed onto roast, or more to taste

Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.

Position the rack inside a roasting pan, ensuring it's centered and stable.

Mix together the dried garlic powder, onion powder, dill weed, black pepper, and salt in a bowl until well combined.

Rub the spice blend all over the roast, paying particular attention to the ribs.

Place the roast in the roasting pan, with the rib side facing downwards.

Bake the roast in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Turn off the oven and keep it closed, maintaining its internal temperature throughout the remaining 3 hours.

Turn the oven back to its highest temperature setting, 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.

Continue cooking the roast until it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit or 65 degrees Celsius, adding a further 30 minutes to the cooking time.
