Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening, or as needed
- 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
- 1 cup cold water
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon white sugar, or to taste
Instructions
1
Firstly, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Next, generously grease a 10x15-inch baking dish with butter or margarine to prevent sticking.
2
In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, cold water, eggs, oil, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, blend the ingredients until they form a smooth and even batter. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
3
Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth out the top. To remove any air bubbles, gently shake the dish back and forth a few times.
4
Then, bake the cake in the preheated oven for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
5
Allow the cake to cool in the dish for at least 30 minutes before proceeding. To ensure even absorption of the topping, poke holes all over the cake using a bamboo skewer or the handle of a wooden spoon.
6
In a separate bowl, whisk together condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half until well combined. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the top of the cake, allowing it to soak in thoroughly.
7
Cover the cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight to allow it to chill and set.
8
Finally, beat together heavy cream, sugar, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a medium bowl using an electric mixer until fluffy. Spoon the whipped cream over cake slices to serve.
