Minnesotan Beef and Macaroni Hotdish
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 large green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 pound tomatoes, coarsely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
  • 1 cup beef broth
Instructions
1
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the beef, stirring occasionally, until it develops a rich brown color, approximately 5 minutes. Transfer the cooked beef to a separate serving container.
2
In the same skillet, sauté the macaroni, bell pepper, and onion over medium heat for 3 minutes. Then, add the cooked beef to the skillet along with the tomato sauce, tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, basil, oregano, ground black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, and hot pepper sauce. Pour in the beef broth to create a savory mixture.
3
Cover the skillet and let it simmer gently until the macaroni is tender, taking around 15 minutes. Next, remove the lid and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your liking, taking anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
