Michigan-Style Roast Turkey
Ingredients
  • 1 (12 pound) whole turkey
  • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 4 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons chicken bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons seasoning salt
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius. Next, thoroughly clean and rinse a turkey under cold running water. Discard the internal organs, or reserve them if you have a special fondness for them.
2
Place the turkey in a suitable oven-safe container, such as a Dutch oven or roasting pan. Carefully pry the skin away from the breast to create small, individual compartments. Apply an even layer of butter on both sides of the skin and breast meat to ensure tender, juicy results.
3
In a separate container, mix together water and bouillon cubes. Add some chopped parsley and onion to the mixture for added flavor. Pour this liquid over the top of the turkey, making sure it's evenly coated. Sprinkle a pinch of seasoning salt over the entire bird.
4
Cover the turkey with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches a safe minimum of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. For the final 45 minutes, remove the foil to allow the turkey to brown and crisp up nicely.
