Ingredients
- 1 quart whole milk
- 1 3/4 cups white sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 24 pecan halves for garnish
Instructions
1
Combine the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan. Place it over medium heat and stir constantly until the mixture reaches a rolling boil.
2
After 20 minutes of cooking, carefully lift out the cinnamon stick from the saucepan and discard it.
3
Next, insert a candy thermometer into the pan and continue to cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently.
4
Once the candy reaches 240 degrees F (or when you can see the bottom of the pan after stirring), remove it from the heat source.
5
Now, add the chopped pecans to the warm candy mixture and use a mixer to beat it for approximately 5 minutes.
6
Transfer the candy mixture to a buttered 9x9-inch baking dish and press the pecan halves onto the top of the warm candy.
7
Allow the candy to cool before cutting it into desired pieces. Finally, store the candy in an airtight container for later enjoyment.
