Mess-Free Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 hamburger buns
Instructions
1
Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks until it's uniformly colored. To achieve this, I prefer using the back of a spoon to gently mash and distribute the meat evenly. Next, add diced celery and onion to the skillet, cover it with a lid, and let them cook until they're tender and have lost their crispiness, approximately 5 minutes. Remove any excess fat from the skillet.
2
Combine the cooked ground beef with (undiluted) tomato soup, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce in the skillet. Season with salt and garlic powder to taste. Continue cooking over low heat, allowing the mixture to simmer until it's heated through and the flavors have melded together. Stir frequently to prevent scorching on the bottom of the pan.
3
Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture onto buns and serve immediately.
