Ingredients
- 3 cups beer
- 3 cups distilled white vinegar
- 3/4 cup seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®), divided
- 1/2 cup salt
- 36 live blue crabs
Instructions
1
Combine the ingredients of beer, vinegar, 1/2 cup of seafood seasoning, and salt in a large stockpot over high heat.
2
Heat is turned up to its maximum level, and the mixture starts to boil vigorously.
3
Once boiling, carefully place each crab upside down on the surface of the liquid.
4
A sharp knife is inserted into the shell, just behind the mouth, to prepare it for cooking.
5
Next, a fine-mesh strainer is placed over the boiling liquid mixture.
6
The crabs are then carefully added to the strainer in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap.
7
The lid is then placed on top of the stockpot and steaming commences.
8
The crabs are cooked for 20 to 30 minutes, or until they have turned bright orange and lost their blue-green color.
9
Finally, the remaining 1/4 cup of seafood seasoning is sprinkled over the cooked crabs before they are served.
