Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 15 craft sticks
- 15 medium apples
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 8 drops red food coloring
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven and line it with parchment paper, ensuring the surface is adequately coated to prevent sticking.
2
Insert wooden skewers into the entire, uncut apples.
3
Combine granulated sugar, water, and corn syrup in a medium-sized saucepan placed over high heat. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil and insert a candy thermometer; continue to cook, without stirring or disturbing the mixture, until it reaches 300-310 degrees Fahrenheit (149-154 degrees Celsius) or when a small droplet of syrup is dropped into cold water forms hard, brittle threads.
4
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in a few drops of your preferred food coloring.
5
Hold each apple firmly by its stick, then submerge it into the syrup mixture, remove it and turn to coat evenly.
6
Place the coated apples on the prepared cookie sheets to allow them to harden completely.
