Marianne's Comfort Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 3 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 (8 ounce) package fresh sugar snap peas
  • 5 slices American cheese, or more to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen diced southern-style hash brown potatoes, or more to taste
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a hot temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Heat a large skillet over high heat, bringing it to a medium-high temperature. Cook and stir the beef, onion, and garlic in the hot skillet until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, taking around 5 to 7 minutes.
3
Transfer the ground beef mixture from the skillet, using a spoon to carefully lift it out, to a 2-quart casserole dish. Leave the remaining drippings in the skillet.
4
Spread a rich and creamy mushroom soup over the ground beef mixture.
5
Cook and stir the mushrooms in the remaining drippings of the skillet over medium heat, allowing them to become tender and browned. This process should take around 5 to 10 minutes, after which you can spread them over the soup layer in the casserole dish.
6
Arrange a selection of snap peas on top of the mushroom layer. Cover this with slices of American cheese.
7
Layer sliced potatoes over the cheese, creating a delicious and satisfying dish.
8
Bake your casserole in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and the potatoes are browned and crispy, taking approximately 1 hour.
