- 1 (12 ounce) loaf Italian olive bread
- 8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese

Melt butter in a compact cooking vessel over an intermediate heat setting, and sauté the onion for 3 minutes. Decrease the heat to a lower level, then add maple syrup and continue cooking until the onions are tender and have developed a golden hue, taking around 7 to 10 minutes.

Position the oven rack approximately 8 inches away from the heat source and preheat the oven's radiant heating element.

Combine tuna with salad dressing in a container; add salt and pepper to taste. Slice the bread loaf into two semi-circular pieces, then divide each piece in half lengthwise to create four identical sections. Place the bread slices, with their crust facing downwards, on a baking sheet. Arrange the tuna mixture, onion, and Cheddar cheese in an even layer over the bread pieces.
