Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 3/4 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 cup real maple syrup
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Combine vegetable shortening and flour in a bowl using a pastry cutter until the mixture has a rough, uneven texture. Whisk together 1 egg with cold water and vinegar in a measuring cup. Create a depression in the center of the flour mixture by pushing aside some of the ingredients with your fingers, then pour about half the egg mixture into this depression; mix the liquid ingredients into the flour mixture. Mix the remaining half of the egg mixture into the dough, stirring just until everything is well combined.
3
Roll the dough out into a round shape with a diameter of 10 inches on a surface covered in flour and shape it to fit the bottom of an 8-inch pie dish. Trim and decorate the edges of the crust by crimping or fluting them.
4
Mix together maple syrup, 2 eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and brown sugar in a bowl until the brown sugar has dissolved completely. Pour this filling mixture into the pie crust.
5
Bake the pie in the preheated oven until the filling is set and small, sweet spots have formed on top of the filling, taking about 45 minutes. Allow the pie to cool and firm up completely in the refrigerator for at least 5 to 6 hours before serving.
