Maple Pear Tarte Tatin
Ingredients
  • 1/2 (17.3 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 4 firm pears - peeled, cored, and halved, or more as needed
Instructions
1
To begin, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius). Next,
2
unroll the puff pastry on a lightly dusted surface, spreading it to 1/4-inch thickness; then refrigerate the pastry for later use.
3
In a 9-inch cast iron skillet, melt butter over medium heat; combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in the skillet and stir until the sugar dissolves. This process should take about 5 minutes, during which you'll need to stir the mixture regularly.
4
Once the sugar dissolves, add maple syrup to the skillet and continue stirring until the mixture starts to bubble. Remove the skillet from heat at this point.
5
Place a pear half cut side up in the center of the skillet. Cut the remaining pear halves in half once more and arrange them around the central pear, cut sides up.
6
Put the skillet over medium-low heat; cook the pears by basting them with the syrup mixture until they start to soften, approximately 5 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat.
7
Take the puff pastry out of the refrigerator and place it over the pears, tucking the edges of the pastry around the pears inside the skillet.
8
Finally, bake the tart in the preheated oven until the pastry is puffed and golden, about 20 minutes; allow it to cool for an additional 5 minutes. To serve, place a serving plate over the skillet and invert to remove the tart; it will still be hot.
