Ingredients
- 1/2 stick butter
- 2 onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 1/4 pounds boneless stewing beef, cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces
- 6 cups water
- 3/4 cup rice wine
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup honey
- 5 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon chile-garlic sauce
- 1 carrot, sliced
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
Instructions
1
Heat a large skillet over medium heat, allowing butter to melt and become smooth. Introduce the onion and garlic into the skillet; cook until they are translucent, approximately 1 to 3 minutes. Next, add the beef and stir constantly until it reaches a brown color, taking around 15 minutes to achieve this.
2
Combine water, rice wine, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, mushrooms, and chile-garlic sauce in the skillet with beef. Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to cook until the beef becomes tender, approximately 60 minutes later.
3
Introduce carrot and sesame seeds into the skillet with the stew. Season the dish with salt and pepper to taste. Continue cooking until half of the liquid has evaporated, taking around 15 minutes.
4
Drizzle sesame oil over the stew and remove it from heat to serve.
