  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Asian (toasted) sesame oil
  • 2 pounds Korean-style short ribs (beef chuck flanken, cut 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick across bones)

Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, water, green onions, garlic, and sesame oil in a bowl until the sugar has fully incorporated.

Put the ribs into a large, resealable plastic container; pour in the marinade mixture, remove any air pockets, and close the lid. Refrigerate for 3 hours.

Prepare an outdoor grill to a medium-high heat setting; lightly brush the grill surface with oil. Take the ribs out of their marinade bag; shake off any remaining excess sauce and discard it.

Cook the ribs on the preheated grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side, or until the meat is still slightly pink but not red near the bone.
