Kool-Aid Doughnuts
Ingredients
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 (.13 ounce) envelope unsweetened soft drink mix, any flavor (such as KOOL-AID®)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 (.13 ounce) envelope unsweetened soft drink mix, any flavor (such as KOOL-AID®)
Instructions
1
Heat the oil in a deep-frying vessel or large cooking pot to a scorching temperature of 365 degrees Fahrenheit (185 degrees Celsius). Combine three cups of flour, a cup of sugar, baking powder, salt, and half a packet of soft drink flavoring in a spacious mixing container.
2
Blend the milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract together in a separate large bowl until they are fully merged; gradually add the flour mixture to create a smooth, pancake-like batter.
3
Carefully drop the batter by large spoonfuls, approximately two teaspoons in size, into the preheated oil; fry until they turn a deep golden brown on all sides, taking about two to three minutes. Remove the fried donuts to a tray lined with paper towels for draining excess oil.
4
Combine one cup of sugar with the remaining half packet of soft drink flavoring in a flat, shallow dish. Roll the still-warm donuts in the sugar mixture to coat evenly; place them on a fresh set of paper towels to cool slightly before serving warm.
