Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2/3 cup uncooked brown rice
- 1/2 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/3 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried celery flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 pinch salt, or to taste
Instructions
1
Boil 1 1/2 cups of water in a saucepan; add brown rice and stir to combine. Lower the heat to a medium-low setting, cover the saucepan, and let it cook until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed, taking approximately 40 to 50 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside momentarily.
2
In a skillet, cook the turkey over medium heat until some of its fat has rendered and it becomes crumbly, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add sliced bell pepper, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet; continue cooking and stirring until the turkey is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender, taking an additional 5 to 8 minutes. If excess grease accumulates, drain it off.
3
Combine the cooked brown rice with the turkey mixture in the skillet; add 1/3 cup of water, along with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, celery flakes, and black pepper. Stir everything together to create a uniform mixture.
4
Bring the rice-turkey mixture to a gentle simmer; let it cook until all the liquid has been absorbed, taking around 10 minutes. Finally, season with salt and black pepper to taste
