Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 5 medium apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 4 large eggs
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2
Next, take a moment to prepare your baking vessel by coating it with butter or cooking spray and then dusting it lightly with flour, to prevent the cake from sticking.
3
To begin making your cake, combine 5 tablespoons of granulated sugar and a pinch of cinnamon in a large mixing container. Add sliced apples to the bowl, gently tossing them around until they are evenly coated with the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
4
In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 5 tablespoons of sugar, oil, orange juice, eggs, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should be quite thick.
5
To assemble your cake, transfer half of the batter into the prepared tube pan. Top it with half of the apple slices, followed by the remaining half of the batter. Arrange the remaining apple slices on top in a neat and orderly fashion.
6
Place the tube pan in your preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
7
Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 1 hour. Use a table knife to gently loosen the edges of the cake from the pan.
8
Carefully invert the cake onto a wire rack, allowing it to cool completely before serving.
