- 1 1/2 cups mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
- 1 orange, juiced
- 6 ounces chopped fresh pineapple with skin
- 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
- 4 tablespoons white sugar, divided
Instructions

Combine soy sauce, mirin, and orange juice in a saucepan; add pineapple, Granny Smith apple, garlic, ginger, and half of the sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

Once boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

During this time, adjust the sweetness level to your preference by adding more sugar as needed.

After 20 minutes of simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool.
