Combine butter, sugar, and egg yolks in a medium-sized bowl using an electric mixer until they come together in a smooth, even mixture; then gradually incorporate flour into the blend until it reaches a soft, cohesive consistency.

Shape the dough into small, rounded balls; place these balls onto ungreased baking sheets about 2 inches apart from one another. Use your thumb or a similar-sized utensil to create a small indentation in the center of each cookie; fill this cavity with 1/2 teaspoon of preserves.
