Italian-Infused Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 cups sliced onions
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, or more if needed
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, or to taste
  • halved grape tomatoes
Instructions
1
Boil a large container of salted water until it reaches a rolling motion; cook green beans in the boiling water until they are tender but still retain some firmness when bitten into, approximately 5 to 10 minutes; transfer the green beans to a 9x13-inch serving dish.
2
Sauté sliced onions, white vinegar, minced garlic, granulated sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano in a medium-sized skillet over a moderate heat setting until the onions become soft and translucent, around 5 minutes. Lower the heat to a lower temperature and continue cooking and stirring until the onions are extremely tender and have developed a deep brown color, roughly 15 to 20 minutes.
3
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
4
Spread the cooked onion mixture over the green beans and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. Arrange sliced tomatoes, cut side down, on top of the cheese layer.
5
Bake the dish in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, approximately 35 minutes.
