Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 1/4 cups pecan halves
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven by placing the baking sheet inside it and letting it heat up for a few minutes.
2
Next, take a saucepan and place it over medium heat on your stovetop. Mix together the brown sugar, white sugar, and milk in the saucepan until well combined.
3
Continue to cook the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
4
Now, add in the butter, pecans, and vanilla to the saucepan, stirring gently to distribute them evenly.
5
Allow the mixture to cook for a few minutes longer, without stirring it constantly, until it reaches a temperature of 234 to 240 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C).
6
To test if the mixture is ready, carefully drop a small amount of it into a cup of cold water. If it forms a soft ball that flattens when you remove it from the water and place it on a flat surface, then it's ready.
7
Remove the saucepan from the heat source and let the syrup cool down for 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
8
Once the syrup has cooled and thickened, remove it from the saucepan and pour it immediately onto your prepared baking sheet.
9
Let the mixture rest for a while until it has set and become firm to the touch.
10
Finally, allow the entire mixture to cool completely before cutting it into desired shapes or sizes.
