Instant Pot Smoky Pea Soup
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 pound green split peas, rinsed and sorted
Instructions
1
Preheat the pressure cooker to its Saute mode and initiate the warming-up process. Next, insert butter and olive oil into the pot to facilitate sautéing. Introduce onion, celery, bay leaves, and thyme into the pot and stir occasionally until the onion becomes translucent, approximately 5 minutes.
2
Add carrots, bacon, garlic, salt, and pepper to the pot. Continue cooking until fragrant, roughly 1 minute. Introduce broth into the pot and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in split peas. Close the lid securely, ensuring it is locked in place, and set the release knob to its Sealing position.
3
Consult your pressure cooker's manual for specific guidance on setting the Manual/Pressure Cook mode and timer. Set the timer according to your manufacturer's instructions, with a recommended duration of 18 minutes. Allow for an additional 10 to 15 minutes for the pressure to build up.
4
Release the pressure using the natural-release method, as specified in your manual's instructions. This process typically takes approximately 15 minutes. After the pressure has been released, switch the steam release knob to its Venting position and utilize the quick-release function for any remaining pressure. Carefully open the lid to access the contents.
5
Remove the bay leaves from the pot and taste the dish as desired. Make any necessary adjustments to seasonings before serving.
