Hungarian Paprika Beef Stew
Ingredients
  • cooking spray
  • 1 pound beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
Instructions
1
Begin by preheating a large pot with cooking spray and placing it over medium heat. Allow the beef stew meat to cook in the pot until it is thoroughly browned on all sides, taking around 5-7 minutes to achieve this. Next, add the onions to the pot and cook while stirring until they start to become tender, approximately 5 minutes pass.
2
Now, combine the water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and mustard in the pot with the beef and onion mixture. Cover the pot and then reduce the heat to a low setting, allowing it to simmer for about 2.5 hours or until the beef is tender.
3
While the stew is cooking, prepare a separate pot of lightly salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Cook the egg noodles in this boiling water until they are cooked through yet still retain some firmness to the bite, taking around 5 minutes. Finally, drain the noodles and serve them alongside the goulash.
4
Note: The key to a perfect goulash is to cook it slowly and patiently, allowing the flavors to meld together over time.
