Hungarian Cabbage Noodles

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 head cabbage, cored and chopped
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Fill a large pot with water that has been lightly seasoned with salt and bring it to a vigorous, rolling boil. Introduce the egg noodles into the pot and return it to a state of high activity, or rolling boil. Cook the noodles in an uncovered pot, stirring them occasionally, until they are tender but still retain a hint of firmness, approximately 5 minutes.

Proceed to melt butter in a large skillet or wok that has been preheated over medium heat. Gradually cook and stir the onion in the skillet until it has turned a deep, rich brown color, taking around 8 minutes to achieve this.

Next, cook and stir the cabbage into the onions in the skillet until it has lost its crisp texture and wilted, a process that can take anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes, depending on the desired level of softness.

Finally, gently combine the cooked noodles into the cabbage mixture in the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper to suit your personal taste preferences.
