Ingredients
- 6 pounds pork spareribs
- 2 medium onions, cut into wedges
- 6 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 6 whole star anise pods
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
1
Begin by placing the pork ribs in a substantial cooking vessel with the 2 cloves of garlic, minced, 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, a pinch of black pepper, and the star anise pods. Add water to the pot and bring it to a rolling boil. Gradually decrease the heat to a low simmer, cover the pot, and let it cook in its own juices for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the meat is tender when pierced. Stir occasionally.
2
Simultaneously, heat a moderate amount of oil in a medium-sized pan over a medium heat setting. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of chopped onion and sauté, stirring frequently, until the onion is soft and fragrant. Combine the minced ginger, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, the juice of 1 lemon, and the remaining 4 tablespoons of soy sauce in a bowl. Cook all the ingredients together, stirring constantly, until well blended and smooth.
3
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
4
Using tongs, carefully lift the ribs out of the cooking pot and arrange them in a single layer in an 11x16-inch baking dish. Brush the ribs evenly with the honey mixture and bake them in the preheated oven, basting frequently with the pan drippings, for about 30 minutes or until they are well glazed.
