Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomato puree
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
1
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a substantial saucepan over an intermediate heat setting. Introduce sliced onions into the pan and cook them in the hot oil until they begin to transform a light golden hue, taking anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes.
2
Next, incorporate the tomato purée into the pan and stir in a moderate amount of water, along with dried oregano, fresh basil leaves, salt, and pepper until everything is fully incorporated.
3
Once the sauce has reached a gentle bubbling point, decrease the heat to a low setting and cover the pan. Allow the sauce to cook slowly for 30 minutes, allowing all the flavors to meld together seamlessly.
