Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar, or more to taste
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
- 5 1/2 cups bread flour, or as needed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
1
Combine water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl, allowing the mixture to sit for 10 minutes until it becomes bubbly and frothy.
2
Stir in milk, egg, salt, and the right amount of flour to create a smooth dough. Mix well on a lightly floured surface until the dough is even, taking around 6 to 8 minutes.
3
Transfer the dough into a well-oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth, letting it rest for about an hour until it has doubled in size.
4
Punch down the dough and knead it thoroughly to ensure everything is well combined.
5
For garlic naan, incorporate minced garlic into the dough during this process.
6
Divide the dough into small portions, roughly the size of golf balls. Roll each portion into a ball and cover it with a clean cloth, allowing them to rise again until they have doubled in size, taking about 30 minutes.
7
Position an oven rack close to the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.
8
Roll out 2 balls of dough into elongated ovals. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet and cook under the broiler until they are lightly browned, taking about 2 minutes.
9
Brush butter on both sides of the naan and flip them over. Continue broiling until the second side is firm and golden, adding another 2 minutes. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
