Homemade Baked Beans from Scratch
Ingredients
  • 1 cup navy beans, soaked overnight and drained
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 small onion, chopped
Instructions
1
Acquire all necessary components.
2
Put beans in a substantial saucepan with 4 cups of water. Heat the mixture intensely over high heat, then decrease the temperature to a moderate level, cover it, and let it cook slowly for 1 hour.
3
Preheat the cooking chamber to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Mix ketchup, maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and chili powder in a small container; set it aside for later use.
4
After the beans have cooked for 1 hour, remove them from the saucepan and reserve any remaining cooking liquid. Place the beans in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish; add chopped onion and the previously prepared mixture. Add enough reserved cooking liquid so that the sauce covers the beans by a thin layer.
5
Cover the dish and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes; then reduce the heat to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees Celsius) and continue cooking for an additional 6 hours, stirring the beans every 3 hours.
6
Once the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened into a sticky consistency, remove them from the oven; stir again, then let them rest for 15 minutes before serving.
