Ingredients
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1/2 cup diced celery, with leaves
- 6 slices stale bread, cut into cubes
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh savory
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a medium-high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Start by mixing together the onion, celery, bread, pepper, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, and celery salt in a large mixing container; pour the melted butter over the bread mixture and thoroughly combine everything.
3
Fill the cavities of your chicken with the prepared stuffing; position the chicken in a roasting dish. Sprinkle the savory seasoning over the top of the chicken; cover it with either a lid or aluminum foil.
4
Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove the cover; increase the oven temperature to a high heat of 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius). Roast until the chicken is nicely browned and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone, reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius), approximately 15 minutes.
