Ingredients
- 1 (4 pound) whole chicken
- 1 cup margarine, softened
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 pinch dried rosemary
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or equivalently 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take the chicken and give it a thorough rinse under cold water. Subsequently, use paper towels to dry the exterior of the chicken completely, ensuring it is free from excess moisture. Set the chicken aside for further preparation.
3
In a separate bowl, combine margarine, garlic salt, black pepper, thyme, parsley, and rosemary. Thoroughly mix these ingredients together until they form a cohesive paste.
4
Using your hands, rub the outside of the chicken thoroughly with the margarine mixture. Make sure to cover every area evenly, then proceed to rub any remaining mixture into the chicken's cavity.
5
Transfer the prepared chicken to a suitable glass baking dish, taking care not to spill any of the margarine mixture.
6
Bake the chicken in the preheated oven until it reaches a desirable level of browning and its juices run clear, approximately 2 hours. To verify the chicken's doneness, insert an instant-read meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, near but not touching the bone. The temperature should reach at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit, or 74 degrees Celsius.
