Hearty Ground Beef and Vegetable Stew
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons beef base
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground marjoram
  • 5 large carrots, cut into rounds
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons water, or more as needed
Instructions
1
Preheat a large skillet over high heat, allowing it to reach the optimal temperature for searing. Sear ground beef, onion, and garlic in the skillet until the meat is nicely browned and crumbly, while the onion becomes translucent, taking approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Remove excess fat from the skillet using a paper towel.
2
Combine 4 cups of water, tomato sauce, beef base, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, celery salt, and dried marjoram in the skillet. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil before adding sliced carrots, which will continue to cook until tender, approximately 35 minutes. Next, add diced potatoes and green beans to the skillet and continue cooking until both are tender, around 15 minutes.
3
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and 2 tablespoons of water until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. If necessary, add more water to achieve the desired consistency. Gradually stir this mixture into the stew and continue cooking until it has thickened to your liking, taking 5 to 10 minutes.
