Ingredients
- 2 cups dried brown lentils, rinsed and drained
- 3 cups chicken stock
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup cooked, cubed ham
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 5 drops hot pepper sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon caraway seed
- 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
1
Begin by adding a generous quantity of lentils to your 5- to 6-quart slow cooker. Next, pour in a substantial amount of chicken stock, along with a few bay leaves for added flavor. Add some sliced carrots, chopped celery, diced onion, and thinly sliced ham to the pot as well. To enhance the dish's savory taste, sprinkle a pinch of Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, nutmeg, hot pepper sauce, caraway seed, celery salt, parsley, and a generous amount of black pepper over the ingredients.

Finally, cover the slow cooker with a lid and cook on Low for an extended period of 8 to 10 hours. Before serving, carefully remove the bay leaf from the pot.
