Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground paprika, or more to taste
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 2 pounds cubed beef stew meat
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 large potatoes, cubed
- 1 (8 ounce) package mushrooms, quartered
- 3 medium carrots, sliced, or more to taste
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 stalk celery, chopped
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 bay leaves
Instructions
1
Combine the dry ingredients of flour, paprika, salt, and pepper in a medium-sized container until they are perfectly blended. Add the beef to this mixture and ensure it is evenly coated.
2
Next, heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large cooking vessel with a thick bottom, such as a cast iron Dutch oven or a similar-sized pot, over a medium-high heat setting. Sear the beef in this hot oil until it is thoroughly browned on both sides, taking approximately 2 to 3 minutes per side.
3
Subsequently, add the broth, potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, onion, celery, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and bay leaves to the pot. Stir everything together thoroughly.
4
Finally, cover the pot with a lid, lower the heat to a low setting, and let it simmer occasionally until the meat and vegetables are tender, taking roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes.
