  • 7 cups water
  • 1 ham bone
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 cup sliced carrots
  • 1/2 cup sliced celery

Prepare the necessary items for cooking.

Rinse the beans thoroughly, then place them in a substantial container and fill it with water. Heat the mixture to its boiling point, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2 minutes; turn off the heat, cover the container, and allow it to rest for 1 hour.

Add a ham bone, diced ham, an onion, salt, pepper, and bay leaf to the pot. Heat the mixture until it reaches its boiling point; then lower the heat and cover the container, allowing it to simmer until the beans are tender, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Add carrots and celery to the pot; cook until they become tender, roughly between 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove the ham bone from the pot and transfer it to a cutting board once it has cooled down enough to handle. Extract any meat from the bones and cut them into small, manageable pieces.
