  • 1 1/2 pounds red new potatoes, halved
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 small onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • water to cover
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions

Combine a ham steak, several potatoes, green beans, and sliced onion in a substantial container that can hold plenty of liquid. Add just the right amount of water to cover all the ingredients, then sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Put the mixture on high heat until it reaches a rolling boil, after which decrease the temperature to a lower setting and let it cook gently for around 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft.
