Ingredients
- 1 (15.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix
- 2 1/4 cups water, divided
- 1 cup vegetable oil, divided
- 3 large eggs
- 1 (15.25 ounce) package white cake mix
- 3 large egg whites
- 4 cups cold milk
- 2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 (12 ounce) package vanilla sandwich cookies
- 3 drops green food coloring
- 1 (12 ounce) package chewy chocolate-flavored candy (such as Tootsie Roll®)
- 1 kitty litter box and liner
- 1 kitty litter scoop
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Ensure the bottoms of two 9x13-inch glass baking dishes are well-greased.
2
To prepare the cakes, combine a chocolate cake mix, 1 ¼ cups of water, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 3 eggs in a large bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until everything is fully incorporated. Pour the mixture into one of the prepared baking dishes.
3
In another large bowl, whisk together a white cake mix, 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 3 egg whites on medium speed with clean beaters until everything is well combined. Pour the mixture into the second prepared baking dish.
4
Bake the cakes in a preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean, taking around 30 to 35 minutes for the chocolate cake and 29 to 34 minutes for the white cake. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack, taking about 30 minutes.
5
While the cakes are baking, prepare the pudding by whisking cold milk and a pudding mix together in a large bowl for 2 minutes. Refrigerate until needed.
6
In a separate process, crumble cookies in small batches using a food processor and scrape down the sides of the bowl often. Place 1/4 cup of crumbs into a small bowl and stir in food coloring until the crumbs turn green. Set aside the remaining crumbs.
7
Unwrap candy rolls and line a kitty litter box with its liner.
8
Once the cakes have cooled, crumble them into a large bowl. Add 1/2 of the uncolored cookie crumbs and some chilled pudding; mix well, adding more pudding as needed until the mixture is moist but not soggy. Pour the mixture into the kitty litter box.
9
Microwave 1/2 of the candy rolls in a microwave-safe dish until they become soft, taking around 30 to 60 seconds. Shape the ends so they are no longer blunt, then curve the candies slightly. Randomly bury these candies in the litter box and sprinkle with 1/2 of the remaining uncolored cookie crumbs. Sprinkle a few green crumbs over top.
10
Microwave 3 to 4 candies until almost melted. Place them on top of the cake and sprinkle some green crumbs over top.
11
Microwave the remaining candies until soft, then shape as in Step 9. Arrange all but one candy randomly over the cake, then sprinkle with remaining uncolored crumbs. Hang the remaining candy over one side of the litter box and sprinkle remaining green crumbs over top. Serve the cake with a kitty litter scoop.
