Gyro-Style Grilled Burgers
Ingredients
  • 2 (8 ounce) containers plain yogurt, divided
  • 1 (1 ounce) package dry Ranch-style dressing mix
  • 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 6 pita bread rounds
  • 2 cups torn lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, seeded and diced
Instructions
1
Combine 1 container of plain yogurt with the contents of the envelope of ranch dressing mix in a medium-sized bowl.
2
Transfer half of this mixture to another bowl, reserving the other half for later use.
3
In one of these bowls, whisk together the remaining container of plain yogurt and diced cucumber until well combined. Cover and refrigerate to allow flavors to meld.
4
Preheat the grill over medium heat, taking care to lightly oil the grate with a small amount of cooking oil.
5
In the bowl containing the yogurt mixture, combine 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion and mix until well incorporated.
6
Divide this mixture into 6 equal portions, shaping each into a hamburger patty.
7
Grill these patties over medium heat for 7 minutes on each side, flipping them once during the cooking process.
8
To assemble the burgers, cut off 1/4 of the end of each pita pocket.
9
Fill these cut-out ends with a layer of torn lettuce, followed by a grilled burger patty, a dollop of creamy cucumber sauce, and finally diced tomatoes.
