Ground Cherry Crumble Pie
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups ground cherries
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 (9 inch) pie shell
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius).
2
Thoroughly rinse the ground cherries and position them in an empty pie crust that has not been baked yet.
3
Mix together equal parts brown sugar and all-purpose flour, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cherries.
4
Next, gently pour a small amount of water over the top of the cherry mixture to help bind everything together.
5
Meanwhile, combine an additional 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour with 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar in a separate bowl.
6
Use your fingers or a pastry blender to work the cold butter into this mixture until it reaches a crumbly consistency.
7
Finally, spread the crumbly mixture evenly over the top of the cherry filling to complete the pie crust.
8
Bake the pie in your preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to a moderate level of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) and continue baking for an additional 25 minutes.
