Ingredients
- 1 cooking spray
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups baking mix
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
1
Firstly, set your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Next, lightly grease a glass baking dish using cooking spray to prevent sticking.
2
To begin preparing the vegetables, heat some oil in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add sliced carrots, chopped onions, and diced celery; cook until the onions become translucent and tender, taking around 5 to 7 minutes.
3
Separate a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook ground beef until it is nicely browned and crumbly, approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the cooked beef from the skillet with a spoon and set it aside.
4
In the same skillet, melt some butter over medium heat. Gradually whisk in a small amount of flour until it is well combined with the butter. Then, continuously whisk in milk to prevent lumps and stir in beef broth.
5
Add the cooked vegetables, garlic salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil, cover it with a lid, and remove from heat.
6
Simultaneously, combine baking mix and buttermilk in a bowl to create a soft dough. Transfer the dough onto a piece of waxed paper and roll it out to an even thickness of 1/2 inch. Use a round biscuit cutter dipped in baking mix to cut out the biscuits.
7
Pour the beef mixture into the prepared glass baking dish and top it with the freshly baked biscuits. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake until the biscuits are golden brown, taking around 24 to 25 minutes.
