Ground Beef and Pea Curry
Ingredients
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chile powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (8.5 ounce) can peas, including liquid
Instructions
1
Warm the olive oil in a saucepan over an intermediate heat setting. Introduce the onion into the pan and engage it with a spoon until it reaches a rich brown color, spanning approximately 5 to 8 minutes. Incorporate the beef and tomatoes into the mixture, then continue cooking without a lid until the tomatoes have broken down and released their juices, taking around 15 minutes.
2
Next, add a blend of spices to the pan - specifically, curry powder, paprika, salt, pepper, chile powder, and cayenne - before covering the saucepan to allow the flavors to meld together. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 30 minutes, during which time the various components will harmonize.
3
After this period of simmering, lift the lid and incorporate the peas along with any remaining liquid into the saucepan. Continue cooking until the entire mixture is heated through, taking roughly 3 to 5 minutes.
