Combine the ingredients in a medium-sized dish, blending them harmoniously together. The mixture should include the sake, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger. Introduce chicken to this blend, allowing it to mingle with the other ingredients for 15 minutes.

Preheat your oven's broiler setting. Prepare six metal skewers by greasing them lightly, then thread the skewers with alternating pieces of chicken and leek. This will create a visually appealing arrangement on a baking sheet or broiling pan, which should then be brushed with the marinade.
